BUILDING A BETTER, FAIRER FUTURE FOR THE FURTHEST BEHIND

Recognising that there can be no true sustainable development if the furthest behind are not supported, UNDP works to ensure that the voices of all, including youth, women, migrants, displaced people and other minority groups, are included in decision making, and that their needs are addressed in all development planning. We need to be bolder In the Decade of Action.

UNDP commits to playing a new bridging role across the humanitarian, development and peace nexus. We will work to strengthen collaboration, coherence and complementarity among humanitarian, development and peace actors so that everyone can target the root causes and symptoms of a crisis at the same time: ending humanitarian need, addressing drivers of crisis and leaving no one behind.

UNDP is also advocating for increased integration of migration and displacement factors into development planning within and across borders and for greater support for people on the move due to crisis.

UNDP is also harnessing the digital revolution to reach the furthest behind by investing in designing data-driven responses and engaging grassroots innovation for localized action.

National Human Rights Institutions and COVID-19: a study by UNDP, OHCHR and GANHRI

The new study COVID-19 and National Human Rights Institutions by UNDP, OHCHR and GANHRI analyses the role and activities of National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) in addressing the human rights dimensions of COVID-19. It provides an overview of good practices, experiences and lessons learned during a time of immense challenges for human rights.

The study which reviewed practices of 75 per cent of NHRIs globally reveals the pivotal role of NHRIs in COVID-19 response in putting people first. It finds that although NHRIs have been severely impacted by the pandemic, they have been remarkably resilient, adapting rapidly to COVID-19, and finding a range of innovative ways to fulfill their vital mission – to promote and protect human rights.
